    First Info:
    Computer - Sony Vaio RB40
OS - Windows home SP3, Clean install
Drive in Question - NEC DVD+RW ND-2100AD (came with the computer)

    Action Taken:
Tried Reg hack, installed all drivers I could download, swapped out multiple Optical drives, swapped out multiple cables, no joy...

    What I know:
Bios detects it, can boot from the drive (that's how I installed windows in the first place), windows "Device Manager" will only see it if I install the "Sony DVD click" driver, but only the NEC and with an error.

I am at a loss as what to do...

I see you have tried a lot of things although I am a bit concerned about the registry hack that you used. How far along in the process of trying to find a solution did you use the "hack?" What was it and where did you get it? If you saved your registry can you return it to a point prior to your doing anything with the registry. A restore point perhaps?

    Hi,

    Assuming XP:

Download TweakUI from here: ( It is on the 4th row )
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows/downloads/windows-xp

Install it and look at "Drives" ( I think it is that - on the left side ............working from memory here :) )
You are making sure all of the boxes next to the drives are ticked - particularly the drive letter that was attached to your CDROM Drive
If you need to add the tick to the box make sure you save and exit.
