Ok so I am looking for a few suggestions on a new computer.

I really don't want to spend more then $600. the cheaper the better.

I want a fast processor, something that can handle most games. I play alot of wow.

i am not worried about a video card coming with the computer, I would just buy what I want instead of being stuck with what comes with it.

I would like at least a 500gig hard drive. And 4+ gig's of memory.

I'm not worried about it coming with an operating system. I would just use rc7.

and i would like it to have the room for upgrading

So does any one have any suggestions?

Have you considered building it yourself? What you are looking for will be hard to find off the shelf and you will be paying for things you don't want or need.

We have some really good people here who could help you out and talk to you on the level of your understanding as long as you let them know what it is.

Yeah, I have thought of building, just don't really know much about doing it, and would be kind of worried I would ruin it. Well I guess I could get my brother over here to help me assemble it after I get everything

I think you will find that with the help of our staff and members you will get through it just fine. You can also get to keep some components from your old PC if they are in good working order.

Dalo Harkin is a true expert and has talked many through the process. Similarly Dirty Polo is has become another expert. I believe that Bschwarz can also weigh in.

From a non staff standpoint, Pippy is known to be very experienced. If you have the patience to give it a go and actually post and wait for a reply if or when you get stuck, you may find the whole thing rather painless.

The only thing to keep in mind that Dalo and Polo are both in the UK so, while they can suggest components they will not be much help in sourcing and pricing the bits in the USA. However that should not be much of a drawback.

Getting parts should be easy. I get all of mine from Newegg. I would give it a go if I were you. Like BeeCeeBee said you really are better off building your own PC than ordering one. It will be a lot less costly to you and would be a great experience too.

There is nothing like building your own machine. It's not as difficult as one
would think. I recently completed an i7 build for Windows 7. I have the 7
RC on it right now but will do a clean install when it is available through
my Technet Plus subscription. I do have to warn you, once you have your
own build, you can never Go Back....I used to buy strictly Dell, now I don't
buy, I build. :D

I think this would be an excellent idea,as we can all learn, at the same time.
With the help, of say "Snagit" whereby arrows and extra text etc, can be added,I think it would be relatively simple, to hook all the components up.:)
CHF have some very experienced Techies, and I'm sure they would all,be more than happy to help you,Patrick, should you decide to go down this route.

Yeah from looking at what I want and what is out there i think I will go this route.

I already have my hp mini tower I would use for my base and would like to go with intel quadcore at least. I am not sure what I would need to buy for a mother board. I think I want to be able to go with 2 video cards though

My suggestion is to create a wish list and post it. Dalo will see it in the morning (British time) and other probably sooner.

After having a look around I don't think you are going to get much better in the Micro ATX size,

Personally I would say as motherboards go Abit rule, but not in LGA1366, Micro ATX, as I can't find one.

and comparing it to a Gigabyte ATX board thats two big it looks just as good.

But after saying that wait and see what Dalo says he has a habit of proving me wrong.

You may want to reconsider that board. The Input/Output Hub runs hot... It's a known problem.

Im here, im here :D

Hi Patrick,

I always go with Asus for the MOBOs as I have NEVER had one fail MSI (I have had a few go)
You are going to need a new case the Antec 300 (Antec is dirty polos favourite case manufacturer :D) is fantastic value for money and will keep your components nice and cool.
The next thing to consider is - if you want a quad core do you want a 1066 CPU like a Q6600 (well known for their overclocking ability ;) )
Or would you rather a 1333 CPU such as the Q9550 (stock) - you have to take into account that the MOBO, CPU and RAM are the most expensive parts (on your budget I think you will struggle for a decent quad core system) Then you just need a PSU (lots of choice for you there and is down to preference)
GPU (depends on what size monitor you have)
HDD is only around £45 for 1TB now
I am not a myth.

I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge -- myth is more potent than history -- dreams are more powerful than facts -- hope always triumphs over experience -- laughter is the cure for grief -- love is stronger than death.

My first suggestion is that you post your wish list on the forum or in an account that is accessible. :D

This is the hard part, deciding on your bits.

Newegg.com - Intel Core 2 Quad Q9550 Yorkfield 2.83GHz 12MB L2 Cache LGA 775 95W Quad-Core Processor - Processors - Desktops

Newegg.com - Antec Three Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Computer Cases

Newegg.com - ASUS P5Q3 LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard - Intel Motherboards

I am still not sure on a psu too. and after pricing everything out I figured I can spend a little more since I am just going to do the build over a month or 2

Just my thoughts, although the case looks great, the location of the PSU
will create some minor difficulties. The position of the PSU requires a
power supply extension and probably 16 inch long cables. It looks like it
would be a stretch....

Do you think it would be better to go with the antec 900
