This may just be a question of growing pains but I am looking for a few tips on how to best use dual monitors. Yes I went out and got a new toy. My principal display remains the laptop screen if for no other purpose it is easier to type with the screen in front of me. The new monitor is obviously now the secondary display.
Unfortuately I can only set it up as an analogue because the sole output on the laptop is vga and the monitor has both vga and dvi. So question no 1. Is there any point to getting a vga to dvi converter? Will the input still be analogue if I do? It seems to me that logic dictates that a converter will have no effect as it will not change analogue output to digital.
Next is a Windows 7 issue. I have the monitor set to extend my desktop allowing me to move anything I want over to the monitor. That is fine but I notice that it seems to eliminate the new snap feature on Windows 7. If you move a window to the right (where my monitor is) it will move directly to the new monitor. However it will also reduce to less than a full window. If you continue all the way to the right of the new monitor it will resize. However if you try to do the same thing to the left, the exact opposite will occur. I suspect this is just a trade off that one has to make but I figured I would see if anyone has a "solution."
Along the same lines, before when I was using the "snap" feature I never noticed whether the window reduced in size while I was moving it or just when I reached the edge of the screen. What I do notice is that when I move to the new monitor, it reduces in size immediately so there is no way to move a full window without maximizing it once it gets there. I don't know if disabling the "snap" would change anything and, if it does, I am not sure I want it disabled if it would effect how things work when I am using the laptop alone without the monitor. None of these things are earth shattering and I can live with all of it. The question is, Must I or am I doing something wrong or not doing something I should be doing.
