In process of updating ATI display driver, current version 8.4, to
recommended version 9.3. Current version dosen't have Uninstall utility. Have
to uninstall Catalyst
Control then the Driver, via Add/Remove Programs. Manufacturer's
instructions then
call for Empty Windows Temp Folder: C:/WINDOWS/TEMP This is my question
are these the folders ?

http://i598.photobuc...PPORTFOLDER.jpg

What is the correct way to empty Windows Temp Folder?

Wont be able to immediately respond.
Thank you in advance.

You can run Disk Cleanup or

Run
%temp%

delete the resulting files

DL,Tried to update driver.Received severe error (red x) at Please Select
Component you want ot install(Express Recomended). Message: couldent find
compatible driver for hardware; Not exact ,something to that effect.

OS Name : Microsoft Windows XP Home Edtion
Version : 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3 Build 2600
System Type: X-86 based PC
Processor: X86 Family 15 Model 107 Stepping 1 AuthenticAMD~2099Mhz

Downloaded update 9.3 to desktop
In Safe Mode uninstalled Catalyst Control Center with Add/Remove programs
Uninstalled ATI Driver(8.4) with Add/Remove programs

Note: Only checked box for primary driver to uninstall, had check box for
secondary
drive(8.4) also. How do I remove secondary driver or should I ?

Option to restart at this point, did not. Removed %temp% by using Disk Clean
Up
here. (which seemed to clean up a few Empty Folders not many of the nearly
2000
files, not very noticable anyway). The Temporary cleanup leaves files less
than 5 days old which I wouldnt think is the case.

Restarted in Safe Mode here.

Resident Antivirus and Firewall are disabled.

Searched for upodated driver in desktop, then doubled clicked on downloaded
driver.

Clicked Run 0n the Do you want to run this software dialog box to start
install process. (9.3)

Catalyst instalation Folder: Setup will install9.3... in the following
Destination folder
C:\ATI\Support\9.3... Clicked install

Clicked yes for License aggrement
Clicked the express button on final dialog box

Error message: clicked OK

Setup Complete dialog box came up: Setup has finished copying files to your
computer;
Clicked yes I want to restart computer.

Local Disk (C:) ATI Support Folder has two drivers in it:
8-4_xp32-64_ccc_lang1_61006 and 9_3_xp32_dd_ccc_wdm_enu

The 9.3... folder has 2 subfolders Driver and FAH both updated with todays
date and time.
The 8-4... folder has folders and files last modified on Saturday March 15
2009

Also, the Uninstall Utility is in Add/Remove Programs now. Wasn't available
with
8-4...
Is the system running on secondary drive? Any help or suggestions will be
appreciated.

To delete temp files; select
Start>Run
type:- %temp%
Delete the resulting files

Not sure I follow the rest of your other thread
ATI from past experience, usually requires you to uninstall all ATI
driver/catalyst entries in add/remove dialogue, then rebooting prior to
starting/running the ATI installation file you downloaded.
I assume in the ATI update that you did select the correct options for your
ATI card in order to download the correct file

Hi DL, hesitant about deleting. Installation instructions from AMD call for
'Emptying
C:/Windows/Temp/ after removing Catalyst and Driver before rebooting. Should I
bring up C:/Windows/Temp/ then use ,Delete, Enter. When i use
select all have no delete option. I appoligize for screen shot, here goes
try again.
I can delete all Folders and files in TEMP. Don't mean to be rude, just
catious.
(note: when i ran diskcleanup 3boxes checked Downloaded Program
Files,Temporary Internet Files and Temporary Files)

http://i598.photobuc...WindowsTemp.jpg

Do you feel this contributes to update not installing?

At AMD dialog boxes for ATI RadeonX1050 chip set points to update 9_3..

Uninstalled Catalyst and ATI Driver In Add/Remove Programs before rebooting
but after running DiskCleanup. All dialogs ran until last box [Express
Recommended]
then the Error. The program continued, did down load update (9_3...)
Uninstall utility, and i think newer version of Catalyst.

I sit now with Catalyst and the 8-4... driver in add/remove programs.

Havent tried to reinstall, havent rolled back driver, or system restore.

Finally got courage to move entire contents of C:/Windows/Temp to recycle Bin.
Won't be long until %temp% gets same thing. My understanding is plenty more
Temps to be delt with, but thats another thread.
Thanks very much for your patience on this problem.

As for the updating. i'm looking for the Driver Packaging Value to change
correct?
from 8-4... to update version 9_3...

In Device Manager>Display Adapters>Properties>Drivers>>Update Driver. select
no not this time to let windows search for updated software?Next dialog box:
What do you want wizard to do; install updates automatically(recommended);
install from a list or specific location(advanced) check the latter?Next
dialog box: Choose your search and information options: When i choose
C:/Documents and Settings/Kenny/Desktop(where downloaded update) get
following message; The location you specified does not contain any device
information files; The wizard cannot find beter software than you already
have. Finish

What am i doing wrong?

To update your driver you Visit ATI web site and follow the links to update
your driver

BTW It's not neccessary to update drivers unless;
1) the new driver fixes bus
2) it provides greater functionality

Remember "if it aint broke, dont fix it"
An Do NOT use winupdate for drivers
Or search anywhere other than the hardware manufacturers site

Run download from site understand.

The Administrator did exactly that yesterday. Optional Windows updates,
downloaded ATI Technologies Inc. - Display - ATI Radeon X1050.(dn't clck)
Driver Packaging Version 8.582-090203a-075908C-ATI is primary
driver was 8.47... Secondary is still pre-installed version 8.47...

Should clear up why need to update. Administrators' website suggested the need
for upgrade on most programs. And this did resolve that issue. Also i
figured may
clear up some application errors, application hangs, and some other errors
these
programs seemed to generate.

That said, don't know where update resides (VGA think) not in ATI folder.
Two noticeble issues, no google toolbar and this after each user logon.

http://i598.photobuc.../untitled-2.jpg

Updating from mfgs. site on hold for now. How severe of a problem will
this update pose in future updating and maintenence? Besides the many
thousands i read about in the Newsgroups.
Will have a look see in Event Viewer, maybe all clear! Anyway waiting on
reply, i
think.

Those errors do only occur when those programs are ran or user generated.

DL, to refresh, the admiistrator updated driver from Windows. All seems well
with
driver itself. What the update didnt upgrade was the Catalyst Control Center.
Was receiving the following message at logon.

http://i598.photobuc.../untitled-2.jpg

Took your advice as well as others and upgraded just CCC from ATI following
links. CCC is now updated and no more warning message.

Should I leave the updated driver(from windows ) as is . Should i reinstall
from
ATI websie.

Thanks for your patience.

I'm unsure as to what you mean by Administrator updated / suggested

Rule of thumb NEVER update drivers from MS Update, unless its a driver for
MS hardware
