Need Help - Blue Screen Driver IRQL Not Less or Equal
#1 schnebbles
Posted 12 May 2009 - 11:20 AM
Hi -
I am having trouble with this error on my son's laptop.
The other info that comes up is:
Stop: OX00000D1 and then the 4 other sets of numbers.
If you need those to help, please let me know.
I don't know enough about computers to fix this one.
The laptop was fine and then all of the sudden it started giving him
this error code when he's on the web. I don't think he's installed
anything new. The only thing I know that could be bad on his computer
is Limewire.
I ran malwarebytes and his AVG virus and nothing came up.
Can anyone help? His laptop also seems to take forever and a day to
connect to the internet - it didn't used to do this either.
I hope someone can help b/c he steals my laptop all the time now and I
get stuck trying to figure out what's wrong with his. Thanks!!!

From http://aumha.org/a/stop.htm
0x000000D1: DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
The system attempted to access pageable memory using a kernel process IRQL
that was too high. The most typical cause is a bad device driver (one that
uses improper addresses). It can also be caused by caused by faulty or
mismatched RAM, or a damaged pagefile.
So, answer The First Question Of Troubleshooting: If the problem is new,
what changed between the time things worked and the time they didn't?
Did your son update any drivers? This includes installing drivers from
Windows Update. If he did, uninstall them.
Otherwise, it may be hardware failure. If no drivers have been changed and
you're sure the machine is clean (and yes, Limewire is a vector for
infection), then I'd start by troubleshooting the RAM.
http://www.elephantb...Hardware_Tshoot
You know your skill level best and whether it would be better to take the
laptop to a competent computer tech. If you go this route, don't use a
BigComputerStore/GeekSquad type of place.

Disable automatic restart on system failure. This should help by
allowing time to write down the STOP code properly. Right click on
the My Computer icon on the Desktop and select Properties, Advanced,
Start-Up and Recovery, System Failure and uncheck box before
Automatically Restart.
Do not re-enable automatic restart on system failure. Check for
variants of the Stop Error message.
The timing of the error could be an important clue. You say it occurs
when on the internet. Does it ever occur before the boot process
completes?
What internet browser is being used?

Hi - thanks for the reply.
How would I know if he installed any updated drivers? I would imagine
if that little shield icon pops up to install new updates, he probably
did that. Otherwise probably nothing. I should have him uninstall
Limewire.
I don't think he's going to know what changed. I don't think it has a
virus so I'll try that link you referenced, although I'm afraid I might
get confused.
I might end up taking it in. Usually I can fix minor problems but this
one seems a little more than minor to me.

Gerry - all of the numbers are:
Stop: 0x00000D1 (0x62004D57, 0x00000002, ox00000001, oxF7F8917E)
Does that help?
The blue screen stays until I shut the computer down. To my knowledge
it only does it while surfing the internet. I'll have to ask him to
double check.
We are using Firefox.
I'll check out all of the links tonight when I get home. Thank you!

You need to know that most anti-virus will add a driver in order to
help to protect you PC.

This will remove any drivers/applications installed after the date you
choose (but will not affect any of your data files). Search the Windows help
file if you're not sure how to use this feature.
If system restore doesn't work you can also try sigverif.exe -> start ->
run -> sigverif.exe to check for unsigned device drivers, which are common
cause of system instability, then post a copy of the results here.

Malcolm.

Does the Stop Error occur immediately you attempt an internet connection
or later? Are you connecting using a wireless or wired connection? Does
the error occur if you use an ethernet wired connection?
What is the laptop make and model?

plus abuse reports with various people yet who ever is impersonating him is
still doing it. I have changed my nic to Leythos now all you idiots think my

thinks his name is a trademark and is unique. He thinks that because he is
an idiot. Watch what happens. BTW my real name is Leythos and I have every

Ok -
I am using Windows XP SP3
MPC Transport T2200 is the laptop.
The blue screen seems to appear at random times. I can be surfing the
web for a long time and all the sudden it just pops up.
I installed a plug in from Microsoft that is for Firefox, maybe that
will help but I'm not counting on it.
I don't think I can reinstall windows b/c I don't have the program. My
son's step-mom got the computer from a friend.
I am using a wireless connection and have not tried wired.
