BeeCeeBee is exactly right -
most smaller USB drives are formatted in FAT32 which all pcs can read - and XBOX and PS3 etc.
Larger drives are normally NTFS and these again can be read by all PC's, but not by XBOX or PS3 -
check to see if yours is FAT32 or NTFS - if it is already FAT32 - you may need to run an update from Sony to allow your PS3 to recognise the files and codecs.
